Dr. Wood grew up in upstate New York in the USA, where he also attended undergraduate school at the State University of New York at Cortland where he studied Physical Education and Biology. From there he completed his masters of science and doctorate of Philosophy in Kinesiology at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. His initial faculty appointment was also at Louisiana State University, where he was a founding member of the Center for Life Course and Aging. In 2009 he was appointed as the Head of the Department of Kinesiology and Dance at New Mexico State University, and in 2018 he accepted the position of Director of the School of Allied Health Sciences at Boise State University in Idaho. Dr. Wood’s research interests are in the area of functional lifespan, and in particular the moderating effects of physical activity and exercise on physical function through its effects on autonomic regulation of the cardiovascular system, as well as motor control and the prevention of falls.
